Empowering young school going girls

Sanitary Napkin Vending Machine Distribution in School
Adequate hygiene services have a great impact on improving girls’ attendance and reducing drop out rates in schools. The sanitary napkin vending machines are part of the Ministry of Rural Development’s sanitation programme.
MAST took up the initiative of installing sanitary napkin vending machines in schools in Thane district. After these machines were introduced in schools, it was seen that the drop out and absenteeism rate of the girls’ reduced and performance improved.
This initiative also sent a positive message among the girls as they realized that the school is sensitive to their needs.
Sanitary napkin vending machines were installed in 8 schools in Thane’s Ambarnath Taluka. More than 3000 girls have benefited through this initiative and the number is still growing.
